We have a winner, and the next giveaway!

I enjoyed reading all of your Independence day plans; isn't it great that it falls on a Friday this year? We are looking forward to a day filled with fun and relaxation. First, we will head out to a parade that the girls love; each year we vow not to go again because of how hot we are when we leave, but each year we go back!

Then my sister and her husband will be coming over for dinner before we head out to watch fireworks. We will be feasting on shish kabobs (steak, red potatoes, onions, squash, and zucchini, mmmm...), grilled corn on the cob, and this yummy dessert:

Quite possibly the easiest recipe ever: grilled pound cake with a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream, and topped with strawberries (for the 4th, I will be adding blueberries so that we will have red, white, and blue). We tried it out last night, just to make sure that it would be an acceptable dessert for our guests; I am such a martyr.

Did you notice a theme with my menu? Grilled kabobs, grilled corn, even a grilled dessert... That means no cooking in the kitchen for me! My husband volunteered to take care of the meal, and I am happy to turn the task over to him.

Now, onto the important stuff...

The winner of the hot pink and green flower is...

Commenter number 50, Heidi Thompson!

Congratulations! I don't have your info, so contact me at kristin@graceviolet.com so that I can get your mailing information.

Finally, we will to move on to our next giveaway, the gingham and polk dot flower:

To enter this drawing, I just need you to tell me your favorite summer-time dessert. I will pick a winner tomorrow evening, when we begin our third and final giveaway.

Hmmm... favorite summer dessert? Probably s'mores. Not that I really, really like them - but I love the memories, the time around the fire... that makes them the best.

I really want a flower...sooo cute! My favorite summer dessert was actually just created by my 6 year old...she loves brownies, so we made a pan of dark chocolate fudge brownies, then poured softened vanilla ice cream over the cooled brownies, and put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. We cut squares and served it with fudge sauce and merischino cherries. Yum yum!!

My all time fav summer goody is a Paula Deen recipe for Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding. It is to die for. I have made it low fat and it taste pretty good but of course the best way to make it is the way she makes it...YUMMY!!

2 bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies
6 to 8 bananas, sliced
2 cups milk
1 (5-ounce) box instant French vanilla pudding
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping thawed, or equal amount sweetened whipped cream

Line the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.
In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Enjoy Ya'll!!

My favourite treat that a friend (and fellow blogger) got me addicted to is a large chocolate chip cookie with a spoonful of icecream on top.

I also love lemon tarts and freshly whipped cream. It has to be homemade lemon curd though.

I love any desert! However, for summer I would have to say my fav is angel food cake with strawberries. Yum!

BTW-my sister won the first flower and you totally made her day/week/month! AND, I made my first pillowcase dress after seeing your post on them. They are the easiest and cutest ever! Thanks for the inspiration.

I guess my favorite summer dessert would be either strawberry shortcake or banana pudding... with LOTS of vanilla wafers! :)

My fave Summer dessert would have to be ice cream sandwiches. I make mine from homemade chocolate/choc chip cookies with a scoop of ice cream in the middle. My daughter LOVES them!

Ok, I'm back my mom has a recipie for the best fruit dip. It's a square of cream cheese, a big bottle of marshmallow cream and a teaspoon of almont extract, or to taste. It is sooooo good, and I don't even care for cream cheese.

Our favorite summer time treat is a toss up between a big slice of cold watermelon and a snow cone from our favorite stand. I especially love the wedding cake flavored one! yum yum!

My favorite dessert is grape salad (made with cream cheese, nuts, brown sugar, and more). A friend of mine gave me the recipe, and we make it all summer (when we can afford the grapes, of course)! It is yummy, yummy, yummy!

Those flowers are so cute! This one would look great on the pillow-case skirt I'm supposedly in the process of making for my daughter.

My favorite summer dessert is the smoothie's my hubby makes. The one I like the best is OJ, frozen strawberries, frozen mangos, and peach yogurt. Mmmmmmmm. I also love to drink most of it but then save a little to put in a freezer-pop container and have it as a popsicle the next day. Double Mmmmmm.

Homemade Ice Cream. Preferably strawberry. Not made in a cuisinart ice cream maker, no no!! In a real ice cream maker, you know the big wooden ones where you put the ice on the outside to keep it cold.

Brings back childhood memories!!

My favorite summer desert has to be this thing my mom used to make with ice cream. She would but cool whip tinted green in a bowl and then put in raspberry sherbet with chocolate chips in it, so that when you flipped it out of the bowl and cut it up it looked like a slice of watermelon. It was so much fun.

It is Angel Strawberry delight- Angel food cake torn in bits, a container of frozen strawberries- make large pack of strawberry jello minus the cold water, melt 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream in that- pour it over cake mixture- let sit all afternoon. lynda- lynhead52@gmail.com

Easy Cobbler
My favorite summer dessert is the same as my rest of the year dessert--easy fruit cobbler. You put 2 cans of canned fruit pie filling in a casserole dish and top it with a can of crushed pineapple with the juice. Then sprinkle on top and entire box of dry butter cake mix and spread it out evenly. Then top with dollops of butter all over and bake at 400F for about 25-30 min so the fruit can get hot and the topping browns. Very easy and very versitile.
