Last chance giveaway!

All of this talk of fruity desserts has made me hungry! Lots of people mentioned strawberries, which are a staple in our house during the summer. Did you know that strawberries aren't a fruit or a berry? They are actually the enlarged receptacle of the flower. I learned that on the Food Network last night, and figured I had better pass along the information; we need to work together to clear the misconceptions of the straw"berry" world.

Have you seen the TJ Maxx commercial where the airline stewardess is holding up a shiny red belt, and instead of informing the passengers of where the emergency exits are, she is describing how great of a deal she got on her latest purchase? I laugh every time that I see it. Well, I have to break from our regularly scheduled giveaway program to let you know of my latest exciting purchase:

Not only are these flip flops worthy of building an entire outfit around (I already did, in case you were wondering), but they also match my headband, AND they were on clearance. Only J. Crew has fabric combos like these!

Ok, we can proceed now...

The randomly chosen winner of the yellow gingham and polka dot flower is:

Commenter number 15, Mique

Congratulations! I will contact you to get your mailing information.

Now, onto our 3rd and final giveaway - the shabby chic flower!

All that you need to do to enter this final drawing is tell me about your latest adrenalin pumping purchase; tell me about that item that brought a smile to your face just by thinking about it, either because it was just so cute or it was such a good deal or both! I will randomly choose and announce the winner tomorrow evening!

My daughter is turning 10 at the end of the month and we're having a Willy Wonka sleepover party. (Stick with me... I'm getting to the shopping part...) Well, OF COURSE, if you're going to have a Willy Wonka party, your invitations must look like Golden Tickets, right? Well, I searched the world over (OK, really only 4 or 5 stores, but it FELT like searching the world over) to find gold paper. I finally gave in and asked a worker in Michael's if they had any gold paper and... voila! She pulled out some perfect gold scrapbook paper! It was very inexpensive and I was soooooo happy to find it.

My last adren charge was just today and I thought it was a purchase, for me, by my man. But alas, what I thought was for my new phone (Blackberry Curve - which he hasn't bought yet) was for a PDA that we already have... accessories. Bah. I was hoopin' and hollerin' for 10 min thinking he had bought it as a surprise to me. LOL!

Ok....here it is folks. The deal of my life. My friend Abby and I were at Home Depot getting paint, and we walked by a section that had rugs laid out. They had a sign that said " Sample rugs- $25.00." So Abby and I stopped and looked, and she found a really cute rug for her living room. For $25 bucks, which is a great deal, since they are usually around $150. She was so excited- I was jealous (sorta, but not really, I was happy she found one) because Abby's was so pretty. So, she said- " Why don't you get one, these are really great prices." Hmmm..ya....but I really don't have a need for it. Where would I put it? I found a cute rug, and thought- this would be nice in our Master bedroom. I am saving now to get an Armiore, TV and a overstuffed armchair for our bedroom (kinda like a sitting area), and this rug would kinda pull it together. I decided to buy it. I get up to the counter....and it rings up.....a penny. Yup...1 cent. Its kinda a shaggy carpet with blues, tans, and chocolate brown. But...FOR A PENNY! So...Abby was jealous....haha...not really- but you know- in good fun, but we were both REALLY happy with our bargains. A penny....can you believe it?! I guess they were going to throw it away since it didn't sell, and they never pulled it off the floor!

Love the crocheted centre in this flower! My most exciting purchase was on Wednesday when I went to Ikea and bought some shelving to put in my sewing room. I am patiently waiting for DH to assemble it for me!

Hmmm, I think that would be this adorable robins egg blue floral pillow. It is a 26" square and ruffled. Our master bedroom bedding is a white matelasse coverlet so I just change out the pillows and accessories from time to time to change the look. This new addition makes my room look so summery and cottage-y (not sure those words even exist but it is what comes to mind). It makes me want to make my bed in the morning! I got it from the Cottage Gals who have a wonderful blog and post items from their shop. I call them up and order over the phone and then stand by my front door until the mailman comes! Another item is this wonderful painting that says "Happy Memories Made Here" - photo of it on my blog. It is pink and anything pink makes my heart skip a beat!

Amy Butler fabric "Ancanthus" (I may be totally butching the spelling...sorry Amy!) from Ebay. I had tried a dress out of this fabric on my 6 year old daughter from a boutique...VERY pricey, so I decided against it...but have secretly wished I had forked out the money so many times b/c I loved the fabric. Now I have 3 whole yards of the stuff :) Enough to make both of my little girls a dress or a twirly skirt and maybe a purse or something to match it.

My most exciting purchase has to be my Farmers Market fabric by Sandi Henderson. I ADORE it and will be decorating my daughters room in it!
PS - I also ADORE this flower!

ahhh...my favorite steal of a purchase was some fabric I bought at a thrift store...at least a yard of a fun baseball print. I am going to applique a shirt for my son, plus other stuff...it was only 50 cents. Yeah!!

I have to tell you I am so the same about TJ Maxx! And I am always saying to people "Guess how much I got it for?" "Can you believe it, it was like 2 bucks!" :) Jen R

well, today I went to the grocery store and using coupons got 5 12 packs of Coca Cola products for free and 10 bottles of Sobe Life Water (B1G1F) for 5.00 after the coupon and they were on sale... so a little over $10 for all that (we have bottle deposits here in Maine) and that takes care of the beverages for the 4th.

I was at Pier 1 today and OMG! They are having a great clearance sale. I spent waaaaaay too much money, but got soooooo much I don't even feel bad about it. My favorite purchase was probably a cute little mosaic-topped side table that was marked down from $69 to $34.98. It looks so cute next to the bench on my deck which, consequently, I got a cushion for that was 65% off. Yep, shopping high galore today. Woohoo!

The last thing I scored is a pretty blue mosaic glass bowl from Target. It was originally $35, but I got it on clearance for $4.98. I love Target's clearance.

Every hear of craigslist? I love craigslist. Let me tell you why... We were looking for a tv armoire for our living room. They were going to be at least $700.00 brand new. I just couldn't justify spending that much on an entertainment center when the current one I had was still functional (I just really didn't care for how it looked.) Well, after looking on craigslist diligently for four months - I nabbed the best steal ever! For $50.00 we purchased a very lovely, like new solid oak tv armoire that the owners had originally purchased for over $1000.00 at a furniture store. Know why they were getting rid of it? 'Cause it didn't fit their new plasma tv. Boy, did we make out! That was the BEST deal I've ever made.

Well, I've been looking for some shelving for my daughters room that I am making over, and for three moths I just couldn't find anything that made me happy and inspired me. Finally I found a great sale at Lowes where some nice bracketless shelves were going on sale for $9,$6 and $4 ( different sizes). I looked and looked and couldn't find the shelves anywhere in the store, all they had where the display shelves with the big yellow SALE sign on them. I asked the guy if I could just buy the displays and upon approval from the manager I was given an extra discount on all of them because they were displays and one was slightly scratched on the back ...I was SOOOOO proud of waitting it out and finally finding the RIGHT deal. Check out a picture of the shelves and the rest of the bedroom redo on my blog!

I am a huge coupon shopper and LOVE double coupons at Ralphs. I usually spend about 2 hours, at least, grocery shopping a couple times a month. But when I get my receipt and see my savings I feel like it was a time well spent.
