Ruffle Skirt

I remember the first 4th of July after my oldest was born...

I remember it, not because of some grand memory, but because I made a ghastly mistake: I didn't dress her in patriotic garb. It was during our town's annual parade that I began noticing all of the other children. All around me little ones were proudly displaying our nation's colors; whether it be with a simple t-shirt or a pretty summer dress - each child was wearing red, white, and blue!

What was wrong with me?! How could I have forgotten? I had completely forsaken one of the cardinal rules of child-rearing (i.e. one must dress their child in garments that coordinate with the current holiday)!

"Never again," I vowed to myself. Never again.

This year when I realized that the 4th was quickly approaching, I took action to fulfill that vow I'd made years earlier... And made a sweet red ruffly skirt.

Quick to assemble and adorable to look at - I'll say what I've said time and time again: I want one for ME!

p.s. Blue will be incorporated through hair ribbons on those cute pigtails!

Cute! Perfect for the 4th!

My oldest was born on the
4th of July which results in the best birthday bash and everyone knows they better show up in red, white & blue!

I JUST purchased fabric to make my little girls (6 and 1) a 4th of July skirt as well. I am so glad you posted this. I will borrow this idea as well :) I wondered if you simply surged the edges of the ruffle or how did you do that?

SUPER CUTE!

I want one for me too! Well, I already have red fabric that was destined to become a superman cape....I wonder if anyone would notice if it turned into a red skirt for my daughter instead? Would you consider a quick tutorial? Can't tell if you finished the edges of the ruffle or not. Super cute!

SWEET!! I'm guessing that your mother didn't tell you the cardinal rule, so glad that you caught on though and don't have to live with the shame. ;)

I'm not sure what's cuter...the skirt or the pigtails...love them both!

I have to say ... I have a similar one in grown-up size from Ann Taylor Loft. Except, mine is black. Now I wish it were red. :o)

I'd love to see a tutorial, too! I love the ruffle. My daughter (age 2 1/2) has two pairs of the same flip flops that your daughter has! A girl has to have the right shoes to wear with such a cute skirt....
