Oreo Bonbons

Last month, we trekked all the way up to Minnesota to celebrate my youngest sister's High School graduation. Though the drive was long, the trip was worth it, because while there I discovered heaven on earth

Oreo Bonbons (formerly "Oreo Balls;" name changed for prettiness' sake)

Not to say that my sister wasn't the highlight of my trip (really you were the highlight, Silla, but you have to admit, this delectable treat was what MADE the party).


I made this batch to bring to 4th of July festivities. To achieve the bright coloring (that I can never get with food coloring!), I used red and blue melting chips from Hobby Lobby (any store with a decent baking selection should have these). 

Oreo Bonbons:

1 package of Oreos
8 oz. softened cream cheese
Almond bark or melting chips

Using a food processor, crush the Oreos until they are a crumby/powdery consistency. Mix in the cream cheese. Form balls from the mixture, and set in the refrigerator to chill. Melt the almond bark and coat each ball, allowing them to firm on wax paper. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. 

Eat. Hoard. Eat more.

these are incredible.. i've been making them for years. I make them for pretty much all holidays and for no reason at all.. they are rich, so make the "oreo truffles" as we call them small...(about the size of a large marble) depending on the truffle size you can get anywhere between 60 & 80 of them with one batch. YUM~

i am so excited to make these, i was hoping to find a fun 4th of july food to take to a picnic and who does not like something with oreos. i am glad christa gave some ideas to the numbers you can make, i was not sure if i should double it or not.

Here in Israel one of the most popular kids' party treats are CHOCOLATE BALLS......similar concept, here's a recipe I found online: http://www.instructables.com/id/5-minute-Chocolate-Balls/

ALSO........we typically roll in sprinkles or shredded coconut or powdered sugar.

I'm definitely going to try making them with the Oreos........yum!!

I make these every year for Christmas!!! We top them with white almond bark and oreo crumbs. Sometimes I even add a little mint extract to the cream cheese/cookie mixture to get a wonderful mint-oreo flavor. DELICIOUS!! I wish I would have known you were in MN. It would have been fun to see you.

Yum! You can also do something like this with cake and coffee creamer. Then freeze them and dip them in chocolate! I'll have to try the Oreo "bon bons"! Thanks for sharing!

I discovered this recipe a few years ago and everyone loves them. My nephew now requests them every time he has to take a treat to school. I love the idea to add mint extract. I'll have to try that next time!

I call them Oreo BonBons too. Love the patriotic ones. They are so addicting. I make them real small so I get like 75 from one thing of Oreos. My mouth is watering.

we call these oreo truffles ... and i use a mini melon scoop to make them little and freeze them for 30 minutes before covering in chocolate

never thought of using colored chocolate ... might have to steal that idea

Those look so yummy. Love the patriotic look.

Just FYI, to get great coloring results buy the icing color in the cake decorating section of your crafty store. You only need a teeny tiny bit to get great color and you can use it in anything you would normally use food coloring for. I think they pretty much last forever too.

I've been making these for a few years for my friends at school. We call them oreo truffles. I have goats and I have to say that when you roll the mix into balls and put them into the freezer, they look like giant, shiny goat "pellets". Sorry for that visual but we're country folk, you know.
