A Sweet Birthday Party

This weekend we celebrated our daughter's upcoming birthday with a "Sweet Party."

Our main activity was decorating t-shirts. I picked these up at Wal-mart for $3 each, and I thought they made a great alternative to a goody bag. Before the little girls arrived, I prepared stencils for the shirts. Using a cupcake punch from Michael's, I cut out 3 cupcakes on strips of freezer paper, then ironed the paper onto each shirt.

We used makeup applicator brushes to apply our fabric paint - they are cheap, yet precise enough for the small areas.

While the girls moved on to other activities, I peeled back the freezer paper. By the time that the party was over, the shirts were dry!

For snacks, the girls helped themselves to a mini candy buffet.

This Candy Land game rug was a perfect sweet activity - everyone enjoyed the novelty of a giant playing surface.

A good time was had by all, proving that you can pull off a memorable party on a budget (around $60!).

One more thing... I have to share a conversation that was going on during the shirt decorating:

Scene: All the girls are declaring their love for various Disney channel boys (Zac Efron, Corbin Bleu, The Jonas Bros., etc.)

Girl 1: So-and-so Jonas cut off his hair [I can't remember which Jonas it was, but the girl sure did!]. And when he did, he lost a lot of fans. Like 100 fans.

Girl 2: Yeah, and I was one of them!

What an adorable party! I love the idea of having the kids make a shirt for the party favor instead of a goody bag full of stuff the parents are going to go home and throw away.

What a fun party! I love the idea of using a punch to mass-produce the stencils for the shirts. Great time-saver!

That looks like such a fun party! My daughter is going to be 4 in February - I wonder if she could do a shirt like that? What kind of paint do you use on the shirt?
