Christmas Village - Well, one house of a village...

I finally completed my PB Kids knock-off of the Christmas village house - and after seeing the real thing, I think I like my version better (when I saw it in the store, rather than in the catalog, it was very flimsy)!

(my girls generously gave up their Little People santa for decorative purposes)

My favorite feature of the house is that the roof lifts off, allowing a certain elf to tuck little surprises inside...

We are planning on joining the Elf on the Shelf rage and will also incorporate a little bit of the 12 days of Christmas. On each of the twelve days leading up to Christmas, the elf will deliver a small gift (candy, lip gloss, etc.) to the Christmas house.

Does your family have any similar traditions? Do you have any ideas to make my plans better?

I love the Christmas house. You could make it a tradition to add one or two every year. Maybe even let your girls decorate one...maybe? :-)

We do Elf on a Shelf too! Since your elf returns to the North Pole every night to report on their behavior to Santa, then you could occasionally include a note to the girls from Santa that congratulates them on their good behavior or says he enjoyed meeting them the day after their visit to sit in his lap at the mall. Or an ornament for the family tree one night too - we give our girls the Wallace Grande Baroque Cross & Snowflake ornaments each year. Each year, the company makes a new annual one and that is our wedding silver pattern. The silver ornaments will never go out of style so my girls can have them and pass them onto their children. Just our traditions!

Your Christmas House turned out beautifully!! No doubt it will become a treasured heirloom at Christmas.

I am a teacher, and love to collect Children's books, especially Christmas ones! I wrap up all of our Christmas books, and each night my boys take turns opening a book to read before bedtime. They love it! We have been doing this for 4 years now, and they have already asked if we will do it again this year! Even though they have read all of them, they love it!

What a fun tradition!! I have never heard of it before, I will have to go and check it out. We have a MR Peeps. He is santa's little spy. He moves around the house and is always watching! My kids love it and they always ask where he is when the red and green totes come out of hiding. I love all of your houses, are they hard? Are there any tricks to making them look better? Where is your fav. place to pick them up?
Thanks for the help in advance!

love that little christmas house!! so very cute. we're doing the elf this year but i ordered one online, instead of doing the elf on a shelf one. i've talked with cole about how we have to write a letter to santa asking for an elf to visit us. we have to leave water and crackers for the elf and he'll come stay with us until Christmas Eve. i told my son that the elf may leave him letters or surprises, but that sometimes it also does crazy things. we have friends who's elf hides things - like the boys school shoes would be in the dishwasher, their socks on the Christmas tree, crazy stuff like that. Cole isn't ready for that - that freaked him out a bit, but i hope we'll get to start something new with the elf. we also read Christmas books every night from the first through Christmas Eve.

That is very fun. I would be cool to make clothes pin elfs for the inside, doing fun things like reviewing naughty and nice lists. That really looks great.

The house turned out just precious. Love it! I love the idea of wrapping Christmas books to read. My oldest son is just getting old enough to understand about Christmas, so I've been trying to come up with some new traditions to start with him this year. I may have to join the Elf on a Shelf bandwagon. ;)

I definitely want to add the elf tradition next year. This year we are doing a 25 Days of Christmas theme - each morning the kids open an envelope and it has something special that we have planned for the day on a card inside of it. So far they are loving it!

I had one of these little pixie elves and I had no idea it had a little book and stuff that was suppose to go with it. I wonder if its still in my christmas box? Hopefully I can keep this in mind when I dig thru my boxes next year.
