Christmas Village

Fall, the season which normally incites such pleasure for me, has failed to inspire me this year. Apart from a few measly pine cones and mini pumpkins, I have done zero autumnal decorating - all of last year's adornments are still tucked in our attic.

Christmas is a different story - I am eagerly awaiting the appropriate time to begin decorating for December 25th. The great thing about crafting, is that I can create a few Holiday items while I bide my time.

I love this Christmas village from Pottery Barn Kids; but spending nearly $40 on a cardboard house is a little ridiculous.

Hobby Lobby to the rescue!

Yesterday I found this unfinished paper-mache house for just over $4 (after 30% off). I'm not sure if you can tell, but this is a nice size (over a foot tall), and has a removable roof. I plan on using the 12 windows as a countdown for Christmas - a shortened advent calendar if you will - and will tuck goodies for my girls inside the house.

I can't wait to get started embellishing!

I see glitter in my future.

What a fantastic idea! I am also a little uninspired by fall this year and looking forward to Christmas. I just finished making a mini-snowglobe for my daughter. I'll send you a link when I post pictures.

You are sooo creative! I would have never thought of an idea like this....but now I'm pondering where the nearest Hobby Lobby is. :)

What a fantastic idea. I'm right with you in being ready to decorate for Christmas. James and I have already been scouring the Christmas sections at stores getting ideas.

I can't wait to see how this turns out!

that is a very creative idea!! you should put it on a lazy susan so it can turn! i don't usually do any real decorating.. just a tree.. i got little ones that are very grabby... so anything pretty and glittery is usually no even out of the box good before its broke!

Oh, what a great idea, I can probably handle something like that. Hmmm. So I actually bought some Mod Podge thinking I should master that before moving on to sewing. Haven't made anything yet though! :) I will share when I do.

Fabulous idea!! I can't wait to see the finished project.

I was actually more inspired than usual to decorate for fall this year--although, I just finally pulled out the rest of my Halloween decorations today.

You could also turn that into a FABULOUS chic haunted house! Sparkly black glitter. . .some cob webs. Oooooh, Hobby Lobby might be calling my name tomorrow.

What a cute idea! I bought the Real Simple card holders from your brag book idea, and am planning to make these as Christmas gifts! I'm going to have to check out those houses -- my girls would love to help decorate something like that!

I am super jealous of everyone who has a hobby lobby in their state. I have to drive at least 8-10 hours to get to my closest store. Oh why can't they open on in California. I would love to do this project. I can't wait to see how yours turns out
