Don't you guys love the little birds that I picked up from Hobby Lobby? Aren't they adorable? I plan on decorating everything with them.
Kidding. These things are hideous.
If you don't know me by now, you will never, never, never know me. No you won't.
But work with me - because together we can save the birds from hideousness (with the help of a lot of glitter).
To begin, I applied glue - generously - all over the bird (even the eyes and beak). I really like the Martha Stewart glue from Michael's because it has an applicator, but any glue should work fine as long as you get it cover the entire surface.
Then, I doused it with glitter; I have found that really fine, powdery glitter works the best (once again, I used Martha Stewart brand). Now that Wal-mart has been selling her craft supplies, I was able to get a good selection of my glitter there.
The wires that originally come on the birds are perfect for wrapping around a hanger so that they can dry without getting bumped.
As you can see, even when completed, glitter continues to fall off. My final step will be to spray them with a clear sealant which will keep the glitter in place.
My plan is to create a mobile for my daughter's room, inspired by this butterfly one from Pottery Barn Kids. I only need to glitter 87 more birds. Yay.
Thanks to my sister's craft idea (she made these last year as Christmas tree ornaments), we can begin saving the birds.

I LOVE the mobile idea! I just got done decorating my wrought iron tree out front with fall berries (i know its early) and I think I am going to make some black glittery birds to put on the branches for halloween! You have inspired me to get out my glue and glitter again:)

They look much better now. I'm sure they feel better about themselves now too, all blinged out like that. I think it's a great idea for the Christmas tree. Can't wait to see the finished mobile.
Every year, my husband chooses a new color scheme for the Christmas tree, and the family has fun craft time making sets of ornaments for the tree, as cheap as possible. Seeing your project, I have a set of 12 birds, and some fake fruits, and a few other dunked-in-glitter ideas. Fantastic blog--I'm going to be back a lot, I think!

I love your blog! I'm a first time reader, but this will be far from my last visit.I love crafts. I'm a beginner sewer. (I'm also a beginner blogger, so to speak.) May I add you to my blogroll?
Inspired by a previous post I created a clipboard of my own! Check it out on my blog (Sept 1st) and thanks for the inspiration!
Glitter can save everything - I love it. You have great ideas and I plan on stopping by often.
I have been thinking I would have to find me some other birds since I can't find any black birds now. I did buy some Martha glitter so I might have to do this afterall if no black birds appear in any of the stores.
so darling.
good work!!
