Hair Clips

Recently our girls got cute little cropped haircuts, and they look adorable. The short hair, however, means no more ponytails, pigtails, or braids. But, I had to figure out someway to keep the hair out of their eyes, so we have been using clips or barrettes every day.

I wanted to come up with something a little more unique than what we could find at the grocery store, so I decided to embellish some basic bobby pins.

After finding some adorable brads in the scrapbooking section at Michael's, I got out my glue gun...

Actually, that's not true.

I started out using some E6000 glue that I picked up. Maybe I overreacted, but I stopped using it when it said it was "known to the state of California to cause cancer." My children are constantly putting things in their mouths (pennies, toys, their own feet), why would a hair clip be any different? I'm sure it would probably have been fine once it was dried, but it wasn't necessary to take the chance.

Hence, the glue gun, because it is totally safe to eat hot glue.

First, I fed the brad through the bobby pin end.

Using needle-nose pliers, I twisted the brad ends around until it was tightly secured.

Finally, I gently lifted the brad off of the bobby pin so that I could have room for a drop of hot glue, and then pressed it back into place. The glue was probably not necessary because I wound the brad pretty tight, but since my girls will be wearing them, I figured a little extra security wouldn't hurt (plus, its fun to use hot melty glue).

Hmmm, I might have to steal these for myself.

I came over by way of TCB, I love her site as well.

So, I LOVE these clips. For some reason they are intimidating me to look at and try, but we are going to give it a try. My daughter, Perryn, would like to make them RIGHT NOW...hard to understand waiting as a 4-year old, especially when you have to get the supplies.

I am adding you to my personal blog!! Can't wait to see what other fun stuff you do!
