Cash Wallet

After completing the "Scrappy Wallets," I was motivated to try something a little more complex. My husband and I follow Dave Ramsey's cash budget; this is great for our pocketbook, but not great for MY pocketbook

You see, we usually divide our cash into allotted areas (food, clothing, gifts, etc), which is awesome for sticking to our plan, but difficult to maintain in a regular wallet. Most wallets only have 1 compartment for cash, but I need several.

For a while I used this wallet, and it worked well, but I wanted something that would combine all of the various cards that I carry. Working on the scrappy wallets helped me to see that I could make the wallet I've been searching for.

There are 8 sections for cards, and I'm not sure if you can tell,
but on the opposite side of the cards, are 3 sections for holding cash!

I am so happy to have a cute wallet - my only
problem now is that I didn't add a zippered section
for change. I can't decide if I should go back and
re-design it or just make a separate coin purse.

Decisions, decisions! Either way, I will be sure to post whatever I come up with. And if there is enough interest, I will post a pattern for the wallet - I would have already, but I pretty much winged this one (no measuring or plans whatsoever - I'm too impatient for that!). Perhaps if I had not been so impetuous with the wallet design, I would have thought to add the zippered section in the first place!!!

I would LOVE a pattern. We just started the Dave Ramsey class and this sounds just perfect - and adorable as well!

PLEASE post a pattern/instructions. I don't sew, but my mom does! We are on the Dave Ramsey plan, too. Leave off the zipper for the coins - they make it too heavy! - I just keep the change in my pocket.

Cute, please show us how you made it, I wont be able to do it, but I would like to see, I am not that smart.

I would LOVE a pattern for this - I was just looking at a similar wallet in a store a couple days ago wondering if I could make it myself.

I would love to learn how to make your adorable wallet. It seems like we are not the only ones that have started Dave Ramsey's plan. He's a popular guy!!

Please, please post a tutorial!!

We are, as well, Dave Ramsey folks. And like you've mentioned before he's "cramping my style."

Thank you, in advance, for doing this.

I would love a pattern too. When I read about the "scrappy card wallet" I was wondering how I could make it into one that holds cash too. But alas you have already done so. I also think a separate coin purse is better.

I would love to see a pattern for this! I have an 8-month-old, so I have already downsized my purse to fit inside the diaper bag. We are just about to start the cash system, and a cute and efficient wallet would make it much easier for me! Thanks for the ideas!

I would love the pattern. I am a Dave Ramsey follower. I made an envelope too and then just used stencil plastic as separaters. But I like yours better.

I just saw your dividing of the budget and that is what it made me think of...we do it too and i think I may tackle your wallet as everything else we have had has torn over time...anyhow, follow me at www.menmyhouseblog.blogspot.com...Iwill be blogging something new over the weekend...is it okay if I mention your blog?

Nice! I have been thinking hard about sewing myself a wallet, but I'm being chicken...I am so afraid of ending up with a dorky one that hardly functions, and I will feel obligated to use it til it dies. :p

I'm begging you for the pattern!! I am sick of my paper envelopes and can't find function and form happily married anywhere :-)

I have some Amy Butler and Basic Grey fabrics waiting.... :-)

If you sold these on your Etsy shop, I for one would certainly be buying! I don't have the time to sew much right now, but I would love a cute Dave Ramsey-friendly cash wallet!!

Pattern please!! I was looking for a wallet because I am also following Dave Ramsey and using the envelope system. Today I was at the store and my envelopes were all over in my purse. I was so embaressed! I am currently using the envelopes from the bank. I want something cute and compact.

ADRIA said...

Please give us a pattern!!! I am following DR and I started the envelope system. I was at the store today and I couldn't find all of my envelopes in my purse! It was embaressing! I am currently using the envelopes from the bank and they are awful (although they serve their purpose)! I need something that won't cramp my style! :-)

Katie said...

I too have started Dave Ramsey's class... will you be posting the pattern? Or better yet, selling these?

Anna said...

A pattern is of no use to this girl. You should sell some in your shop! I'll budget it in for Nov! :)
