My oldest daughter's birthday falls close to Christmas, so this year when planning her party I decided to work with the holiday season and use Christmas and winter as the theme: a very merry birthday party!
This time I embellished a simple tee with tally marks counting to 7.
Math is her favorite subject, so she loved this adornment!
We only invited a few friends, and only a couple of those were able to make it
- but to be honest, I was a little relieved!
(Can you blame me? The party was at home, only a week after moving in, and a week before Christmas - fun times!)
A small party actually ended up working perfectly with our activities:
cookie decorating and scarf embellishing!
The scarf craft ended up being the highlight of the party.
Before the guests arrived, I cut scarves from fleece (basically long rectangles)
and using a variety of bright colors, also pre-cut a selection of fleece flowers.

Cute! cute! cute! Or should I say... merry! merry! merry! Either way the scarf decorating was a great idea...makes me wish I had a kid with a winter bday!
I love the scarf carft. My 6 year old daughter wears a scarf almost daily. Too bad her birthday is in August or I'd borrow this idea. ;-)
LOVE that scarf idea!
You're so creative ... as usual!
hope you had a great christmas!
Oh my goodness!! That is adorable and your kitchen looks amazing!!!!
I LOVE the scarf craft. My baby girl is just one but she's got a November birthday so this would be a great craft for a birthday party in a few years. I hope I can remember it.
They are toooo cute!!!
Kristin~ ~What a lovely memory you created for these girls. May your new year be the best ever.
You are awesome! Any ideas for a girly 1st birthday party?
I love this idea! Just a few quesions: What is the length and width of the scarf? 2. Did you cut the flowers out yourself?
Thanks for this wonderful idea-I am going to use this for my daughter's birthday!
this is fab. my two boys' birthdays are 28th and 29th dec.... it is a struggle to make them stand out when everything is so manic over christmas. well done to you for a lovely party.
What a fabulous idea! Admittedly, I might steal this for my adult self; that's how much I like it! I also will be sending this link to my sister in England. Her 4 girls would likely love this!
How cute. Enjoy reading your blog. Wishing you a Blessed New Year.

These are so cute, I am thinking of adding an initial and making one for an adult friend. I haven't done much with fleece, is there any fraying where you cut?
My youngest's birthday is Dec 26th, so I love hearing what other people do to celebrate. He's only 2 so he doesn't care too much as of yet, but soon enough he'll have an opinion! Your party looks like it was so much fun...and very merry! What a great idea!
by the way, I found you via Love You Mucho, whom I found via MckMama. Happy New Year!
love this idea. i'm gonna have to steal it! cheap, creative, and FUN.
