Back-to-school season is upon us, and you know what that means.
Shopping!
Recently, I was on the hunt for some comfortable shoes suitable for my 1st grader to wear on the playground, yet cute enough to coordinate with the dresses and skirts she loves so much. Oh, and something not too expensive because her feet grow so fast!
Target to the rescue!
After closer inspection at home, I was surprised to notice
that the laces were strung through holes without eyelets.
I worried that in addition to looking unfinished,
the lack of stability for the laces would result in tearing.
I immediately thought of my stash of eyelets dating back
to my scrapbooking days (I fear those days will never return...).
I had the perfect solution: star shaped eyelets!
And they were large enough for the laces to slide through!
I didn't have enough stars to complete each shoe,
so the tops were finished off with regular eyelets.
My little girly is very excited with her craft-i-fied
shoes. She says that they make her look like a rock stAr!
P.S. Be sure to check out this site for a ton of ideas on lacing up a new pair of kicks; who knew there were so many ways to lace a shoe?!

Brillant! I bet I have looked at those shoes at Target a zillion times and never noticed the eyelets were missing! Yikes! Great solution and how perfect that they were stars!
Darling!
Oooh, how cute! I found your blog through Stumbleupon a while back, and have been lurking since. I couldn't resist commenting on the absolutely perfect fix for those shoes, though.
Thank you, thank you for this incredible blog! I just started sewing again after the birth of my 3rd child, and I cannot wait to try some of your creative ideas!
What a great idea - I hope they hold up to the wear and tear of a active little girl! I love cute shoes, and so does our daughter - she would love these!
Wow! I love that idea. I would have never thought of that myself!
Great idea! That lacing site is crazy! My laces are quite boring.
What a cute mom you are - genius, actually.
Cute and smart! I'm a little jealous, as I've been trying to find that exact same pair of shoes in a size 4 (for me). They do not seem to exist.
Well, look at you!
Those are some rockin' shoes indeed.
Very wise of you to see into the future and avoid what might have been. Great use of what you already had -- and so very cute, to boot.
There will be time to scrapbook again -- (peering deep into the future).

If I will look like a rockstar, make me a pair for Christmas or Birthday. - Papa
