Birthday Dress

Well

I didn't intend to step away from blogland, and yet 8 days have passed sans posting. I suppose that I am in a bit of a slump - a craft slump that is. And the sun is to blame.

After what felt like an eternal monsoon season here in Oklahoma, the sun has finally come out to play; I have fully taken advantage of it with picnic lunches, evening strolls, and daily Sonic trips (what good is summer without a Route 44 iced tea in hand?). Perhaps I should consider moving my sewing machine onto the back patio...

This week has not been completely devoid of crafty ventures, though.

On a recent shopping trip I came across this sweet little dress:
I immediately thought of cupcakes and sprinkles
Luckily, I had an excuse to pick it up: my niece, Briley, is turning 2 this summer!
Knowing that it would be perfect for her,
I decided to personalize it by appliqueing a "2" and a cupcake!

The project was so fun and simple, I know that I will make something similar for my own girls' parties (when my oldest saw the dress, she begged for one of her own!).

Which makes me wonder: What is the cutoff for proclaiming your age on your shirt? My husband's birthday is next month - what would he think of wearing "his number" across his chest... I suppose I better stick to surprising him with tools and electronics!

p.s. Krista, the dress will be in the mail tomorrow!

I love that dress!!! So springy and perfect for a birthday party! Would you share where you found it?

I have wanted to embellish a shirt for my daughter but am not sure how to applique. How did you do the 2 and the cupcake? Thanks!

So cute! I think he would love a custom age shirt, but it would have to have a pink cupcake on it for sure:)

Briley will be adorable in that dress. Hard to believe "our" girls will be 2 in just a few weeks. My K is about 2 weeks older. Anyway, I just appliqued a shirt for K's party and I'm going to make a matching tutu. Maybe a how to applique post is in order.

PS. great seeing you IRL last weekend.

That's really cute.

Sidenote: can you set your blog feed to at least allow the first little bit of your blogs to show on an RSS feed? All I get in my feed reader is the title, and that's usually never enough to make me click over to your blog. I know you have great posts very often... I'd just like to see a bit of them before I click!

Thank you!
Heather

We have that same dress. It was my daughter's Easter dress. You made it very cute.

I completely understand the weather issue. I live in Oklahoma too, and my blog and Etsy shop are suffering from the nice weather. We are outside almost all day.

Hi Kristin

I have recently stumbled across your beautiful and creative blog.

I love the personal touches you put on that adorable dress. Briley is a very lucky little girl to have this one-of-a-kind stunning dress.

Hello! I wanted to say how much I enjoy your ideas! I was really inspired by the little girls skirt, the one with the 8 pcs. That really got me sewing! For all your hard work Thank you and Happy Holidays!
