Oilcloth can be difficult to find, so when I came across a booth selling it at An Affair of the Heart, I had no other choice than to fight through the crowds to get to it. It is such a unique material that can be used in so many fun ways (such as, my cash wallet).
My first project was clear: to complete the Blackberry case (like the one I made here) that I promised my mother months ago.
Now that I have it completed, I am looking to be inspired. Martha has several fun ideas for oilcloth that I might try next:
What about you? Have you used oilcloth? What did you make?

What is funny is that I just bought some oil cloth at a craft fair place and was so excited about my purchase as well. It is difficult to find....anyway, I'm still holding onto it because I cannot make up my mind what I want to use it on. It must be something special!!! :)I keep staring at it hoping to make up my mind, but I can't let my scissors touch it yet.
Never have used oilcloth...but boy do I remember my grandmother having lots of it! Might have to go in search of some for a covered notebook.
The case is adorable, thank you. As far as a future project. I think the lunch bags are cute but aprons for the little ones would be sweet too.
That's so funny that you posted this because just this morning I was thinking I wanted to make a high chair seat cover out of some oil cloth.
Ah...looking at your blog makes me wish I knew how to sew! I love your ideas, especially the passport cover because we travel sooooo much!
Anyway, thanks for the fun ideas...even if they stay ideas until I beg someone to sew for me, uh, I mean until I learn how to sew! :)
www.fabric.com and www.fashionfabricclub.com both have a selection of oilcloth. i've ordered from both websites before and have not had any complaints yet.
i love the lunchbag and the memo board ideas!!!
Mmm... I like the lunchbox idea!

alicia88Your oilclothes have inspired me.
Thank you for your good ideas,
I haven't made anything yet, but I would like to line my pantry shelves with it. Or cover the top of a little table for the girls.

I make bibs out of oilcloth! I usually buy it online, then make the ties out of cute ribbon or ric rac. So fun!
Could you recover kitchen chairs in oilcloth? My drop in upholster kitchen chairs have been destroyed by my two little girls and I am looking for something I cold wipe clean but still look nice. - Any ideas?
How on earth did you come up with a blackberry cover? I would love to make one for mine. You inpire me to make more and buy less.!:)
I know this is an old post, but I stumbled back to it. I'm dying to get an oilcloth tablebloth on Etsy, but my mom swears it will be too plasticy and much like an old-fashioned diner table. What do you think? I also found it by the yard on etsy for much much cheaper than the pre-made tablecloth, and I'm thinking I might be able to find someone around here who could finish the edges for me...
