After seeing the preview of Heather Bailey's new fabric line, I suddenly felt the urgency to redecorate my whole house with it. If you haven't seen the fabric yet, you need to check it out; it is the very definition of "eye candy."
I have resigned myself to only sprucing up my daughter's room, though. I plan on making a patchwork quilt, a few pillows, and some drapes. But since my local fabric shop told me that it wouldn't be in the store until August, I needed something to tide me over until I get my hands on the real thing.
Hence, a "quilted" decoupaged letter with Heather Bailey paper! (This is the same paper I used on my notebooks)
Using an oversized MDF letter and a selection of my favorite papers, I got to work (Quick tip: to save money, give your child a name that starts with a letter that is not common; I always find G's on clearance. I'm thinking X, Y, or Z would also be great options.)
I cut the paper into strips.
And arranged them in layout that I liked. Then I placed the letter on top to make sure that I had enough paper to work with.
After setting my machine to a zigzag stitch, I "quilted" the strips together.
While I like the look of the stitches, this project could have been done without the sewing machine by just cutting the paper and gluing each section down.
Next, I traced the letter onto the paper.
And cut it out.
My goal is to see how many shots I can have on this blog involving me applying Mod Podge.
After adhering the paper, and applying a top coat of Mod Podge, I finished it off with yet another flower. I know I said I wouldn't continue talking about them anymore, but it is too cute to not mention.
Be forewarned, I am in love with this paper, and eventually the fabric. I will, no doubt, have many projects including these patterns. I apologize in advance for my lack of variety.

Hey bring on the "lack of variety" as you are right - the papers and fabrics are GORGEOUS! My kids are "A" & "T" - no chance of a clearance item there, but that's "o" & "k".

I totally understand the "lack of variety" thing! As soon as I can get my hands on the rest of my Sandi Henderson Farmer's Market fabric that will be all I use for a long time! I will be doing my daughters room in that. I really like the Hether Bailey fabric as well. I am still trying to figure out what to do my toddlers room in. Maybe it should be this! Kudos to you - I love altered letters! I use them all the time!

O.k., I love the paper quilting idea. However, where on earth can I get Heather's paper and/or fabric? I love that idea and I think that we'll do something like that for one of my other upcoming craft nights. Wow! You are full of ideas. I'll have to check with you before I do anything! :)

What a coincidence! I was just at the craft store and bought a large R to scrap/mod podge for our living room. I've done decoupage before, but never actually used mod podge before. I'm looking forward to it.
How much do I LOOOOVE that stitching!!! It totally makes it...brings it another level above! The flower is nice, too, but the stitching is uncommon, for that kind of paper work. :p

Um, technically that's piecing, not quilting, unless you were putting some kind of backing (and perhaps "batting") on there too. Maybe "patchwork" would describe it?
Sorry, Mom's a professional quilter and as much as I resisted, I learned a lot!
I remember her backing her applique projects with old school papers to stiffen the structure (I think that was the purpose). I liked to help her peel off the paper shapes when she was done. I also was paid a nickel per item to run a string on a safety pin through the casing! Ah, how many years of my early life did I spend at craft shows...

That is too darn cute! Love that you sewed the paper together first -- I would have never thought of it because it seems to make it easier in the long run -- I must always do things the hard way! I love that paper too!
