Cute, huh? So in vogue.
As you can tell we are on the "cash system," which is great for our budget, but not for my style. I decided it was time to fix that. And because I have searched the world over for another option, and have come up empty handed, I am going to transform what I've already got.
I got out my oilcloth again (I am amazed at how easy it is to work with!), and traced around my "wallet."
Then I simply cut it out, smaller than my markings, so that I could slide the oilcloth under the red edging that was already on the envelope. I was sure to stay very close to the edge while sewing, so that it would catch the oilcloth underneath. I didn't even have to change the needle on my machine, it went through the oilcloth and plastic without any problems.
So much better. Now I won't be ashamed when I am checking out at the grocery store and have to dig through my cash!

Adorable!! I am glad to see that the sewing machine worked! Now I want one... except I have no cash:(
I love your site, I have one of these ugly wallets too, i am going to try to do this to it. I also want to hear more about your cash system, how do you budget? Can I put you on my blogroll?
How cute is that.. you are awesome.
what Dave Ramsey program are you using? My husband and I have thought about reading his books after hearing about him, but just haven't yet, so I thought I would ask what plan you are using and has it really helped you or is it just common sense rehashed?
Jennie,
We try to follow Financial Peace. It is common sense, but his steps make it easier to stay on track. We feel like it is the best plan for us.
Just consider me a full-fledged stalker now...Love your blog!
What a great idea to refashion a ready made item. Looks like oilcloth is easy to work with - I will have to experiment with it myself!
Hey Kristin,
I just wanted to say that I love it when I see other people on the Dave Ramsey plan!! It's so encouraging :) I absolutely LOVE your blog, and hope to be as crafty as you one day!!
Did you sew all the way around? I have two of these "wallets." I just inserted some of my decoupage scraps into the front and the back for screening and decoration.
Love it! We are Dave Ramsey followers as well which has given me the option to now stay home with my kids debt free and learn to sew! I made your panel skirt for my daughter last night and it turned out great. Thanks for the great ideas. I am going to work on the wallet next!
Where do you find those "wallets"? We are just getting started on the Dave Ramsey system and are trying to figure out how to go about this cash-only way of doing things.
